Enriching lives in Zimbabwe

We are commited to helping less fortunate children in poverty stricken Zimbabwe

Who are we

We aim to uplift impoverished children in rural Zimbabwe.

Our focus over the last couple of years has been to help two schools close to the tiny village of Makhaza, an hour from Tsholotsho, three hours from Bulawayo.

Makhaza Primary School and Mathula Secondary School

We provide what the schools desperately need and would never see without us. The aim is to uplift the lives of the students as well as assist the teachers in providing the children with an education. â€‹

The Laptops and internet we have provided have changed the students lives. Along with selected educational games we are providing a challenge for their intellect.

It has been inspiring to see how little can go so far. â€‹

With an additional 144 schools in the Tsholotsho area, we will never run out of projects to help these beautiful people.

Approximately 3 hours North West of Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, lies the district of Tsholotsho. This region is predominately communal land managed by the local tribal chiefs and the local government.

There are no services in the area surrounding Tsholotsho. This includes:-

  • no water (except from standpipes scattered around the area)

  • no power

  • no sewerage

  • no cell phone reception

  • no internet

  • no garbage service

  • no food (there was a complete crop failure in 2024)

There is no shortage of abject poverty.

Our strength lies not only in the words we stand by, but most importantly in the actions of our initiatives.

What We Do

Makthula is a portmanteau of Makhaza and Mathula.

At Makthula, we are dedicated to making a lasting impact in the community. We do this by addressing the needs of the children and selecting projects that will directly enhance the lives of the students.

Our donations go directly to the schools. We have almost no overheads. There are no commissions, bribes, or incentives. Our only cost is bank fees.

We are not yet a charity or registered NGO. We do, however, have the blessing of the local government, electoral office, rural commission, and the police. They are only too happy to see us uplift the lives of their electorate.

In the Tsholotsho district, providing internet access to schools is not just a luxury but a necessity. The educational landscape in this area is challenged by a lack of resources and limited access to up-to-date educational materials. The Makthula project, which focuses on schools such as Makhaza Primary and Mathula Secondary, demonstrates the profound impact that even minimal resources can have on education.

Internet access can bridge the gap between these students and the vast wealth of knowledge available online. It can introduce them to digital learning tools, virtual classrooms, and global educational resources that are otherwise inaccessible. This connection can enhance their learning experiences, improve literacy and numeracy skills, and provide exposure to new subjects and ideas.

Furthermore, internet access in schools can help teachers by providing them with access to professional development resources, teaching aids, and the latest educational strategies. This can improve the quality of teaching and enable educators to offer a more enriched learning environment.

Investing in internet infrastructure in these schools is an investment in the future of the children and the community. It empowers students to dream bigger, think more critically, and gain the skills necessary to thrive in a digital world. Additionally, it can have a ripple effect on the broader community by fostering an environment where education is valued and supported.

By funding internet access for schools in the Tsholotsho district, we can contribute to breaking the cycle of poverty and underdevelopment. It provides students with the tools they need to succeed academically and professionally, opening doors to future opportunities and improving the overall quality of life in the community.
